The event which happens only once in 12 years. Neelakurinji is a flower with 40 different variations. Neelakurinji or botanically known as “Strobilanthes Kunthianus” blooms on the Western Ghats of Munnar and Eravikulam National Park. It is during this time, the hills of Munnar are painted in beautiful blue because of the blossoming of this flower providing the visitors a spectacular visual treat. What better time to visit this beautiful Hill Station!

2006 was the year when Neelakurinji blossomed last time satisfying the minds and souls of more than 3 lakh tourists. Now, the Kerala Tourism is having a projection of more than 8 lakh tourist during this season. Locals exclaim that as it happens once in 12 years. Thus, it tends to feel like it was a long time ago. If the locals are not able to contain their excitement, tourists from all over the globe are bound to crowd the hills of Munnar.

Witness the Nilgiri Tahr, the endangered mountain goat as well which is prevalent in these hills. To view this wild animal ambling across the floral carpet of these beautiful mountains is a phenomenal sight.

Other Tourist Attractions

One can visit Anamudi Peak, the highest point in the Western Ghats. One has to trek to reach this scenic peak. Nyayamakad and Lakkam Waterfalls are near to Munnar.

Echo Point and backwaters of Mattupeti Dam have also started to pull visitors because of its natural picturesque landscape.

How to Reach?

Nearest Railway Station and Airport is Kochi. From Kochi, Munnar is around 130 km away. One can hire a cab and reach to the famous hill station of Kerala.
